Player B (Fire, Dark, & Grass) MVPs: Flaaffy, Sealeo vs. Game 1: Player A (Lightning & Fighting) vs. While the drafted deck results was really what I was looking for, I thought it’d be wise to also playtest the decks to see what info I could glean. Here’s a picture for each of the four sealed decks I ended up with!: Then left, right, & left for the remaining packs. I followed Magic rules, where you open one pack, pick a card, then pass left. Luckily for my wallet, I already had four unopened Chilling Reign packs. But it’s easier & faster than using index cards & sharpie to simulate cards. It’s an expensive test, opening twenty Pokémon TCG packs. I ran this test with Chilling Reign, as this set has a similar size of number of Pokémon that this Safari Zone set is shaping up to have. So, with four people drafting 10-card packs, for the first time you see a pack again, you’ll get to make a choice from a 6-card pile. If there are too many cards missing from a pack you’re picking from a second time, you miss out on both learning meaningful information and having the ability to make a meaningful choice. This helps keep the draft not being a solitaire experience. This is because of wheeling.Īn important dynamic of traditional Magic drafting is being able to choose from the same pile twice, at different times. This holds extra true now for doing a draft using five 10-card packs.

In the first blog entry of this project, I defined a scope of 4-person pods for drafting.
